Ranking RENAISSANCE
RENAISSANCE is the triumphant return of Beyonce after a seven year hiatus from solo work. The execution of a good comeback is always a little tricky for artists who are well aware of forthcoming judgment if expectations are not met (especially in the age of standom), but as a legend in the game for 25 plus years Beyonce’s mark is cemented with nothing to prove. However, the Virgo artist we know has never been one to settle or play it safe artistically and has always championed for the “art of an album”. That’s why it’s no surprise that Renaissance is a perfectly synchronized project gunning for a top spot in her catalog and perhaps her first no skips album. It is an elevated and tasteful blend of all her past work resulting in disco-pop perfection paired with Black funk, house, and r&b roots that is heavily influenced by the Black ballroom scene. The album still manages to be fresh with well executed interpolations alongside the presence of trendy dancehall and afrobeat vibes. The cherry on top is the seamless transitions highlighting that the album is meant to be played from top to bottom. In honor of her return we rank the album:
